What is Ayurveda?

Established as the oldest surviving complete medical system in the world, Ayurveda has its origins dating back more than 5ooo years ago. The name AYURVEDA is derived from its ancient Sanskrit roots – ‘AYUR’ (‘life’ or‘longevity’) and ‘VEDA’ (‘science’ or ‘knowledge’).

Ayurveda recognizes that we are not all the same. We are each wonderfully unique and therefore need something different for lifestyle, food and overall energy management.

Ayurveda is considered the ‘sister science’ of Yoga; that Yoga and Ayurveda are one single body of knowledge. Ayurveda is a vast field of practices, principles and philosophy targeted at how to live life most harmoniously within our own unique constitutional blueprint (prakriti)

and in alignment with the rhythms of nature and the universe.

When should I see an Ayurvedic Yoga

 Specialist?

While there are definitely aspects of spirituality in Ayurveda, its main emphasis is

to both purify and strengthen the body and immune system in preparation for

more powerful and refined work with the subtle energy body in Yoga.

Ayurveda has a strong emphasis on preventative practices and believes that one

of the most powerful ways to gain and sustain optimal health is by creating healthy

daily routines to keep your system as in balance as possible.

Some reasons people come to see Ayurvedic Yoga Specialists are:

– to learn their constitution (prakriti) and imbalance (vikriti)

– to learn Ayurvedic principles of nature and how to live in alignment with them

– to deepen their understanding of personal tendencies and habits

– practical solutions to positively change these tendencies and habits

– to learn which tastes and foods to prioritise and minimise for optimum health, vitality and balance

– to establish a daily routine (Dinacharya) and yoga practice (Sadhana) specific to your needs and lifestyle

– to deepen self knowledge and understanding of Vedic philosophy and principles

What can I expect?

This type of one-on-one consultation is a deep dive into the knowledge of the Vedas. Ie. Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra.

Through an in person consultation, an observational constitutional analysis of your Prakriti and clarity on current imbalances (Vikriti) and symptoms. You will be sent a pre-questionnaire to fill out before your consultation. This type of consultation will not prescribe Ayurvedic herbs, rather educate you on long term yoga practices and principles that are unique and specific to your constitution, lifestyle and challenges. Expect the opportunity to learn Asana (yoga poses), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Meditation and Mantra and learn how to practice these techniques every day on your own to restore balance, stability and vitality to your life.
